1: Would you agree that agreement between two individuals implies a shared understanding between those two individuals?
2: I would.
1: And therefore if you and I agree it is because we both share the same understanding or view of that which is the subject of the agreement.
2: I can see no obvious objections.
1: Right. Now, what would be the opposite of agreement?
2: I would think it to be disagreement.
1: I would not think it so, but say it certain! Of course, by definition, disagreement is the opposite of agreement. Even the man foreign to the dwellings of knowledge, which you and I enter into daily, would not for a moment deny such a claim. And so with this basic principal, can we then conclude that if you and I disagree it is because we each hold a different understanding or view of that which is the subject of the disagreement?
2: That seems logically sound to me.
1: Let me then ask you a question: could you and I agree on a subject in which we each hold a different understanding or view of that subject?
2: From what we have discussed, I would say the answer is no.
1: Let us ponder over this statement: it is possible that you and I could disagree on a subject of which we both hold the same exact understanding or view.
2: Let me think.
1: And?
2: I disagree.
1: Yes, I agree.
2: Really? But how can you agree?
1: What? Oh no, I meant I do not disagree.
2: And I do not understand your reasoning. It seems we are not in agreement.
1: No, no — but I do agree!
2: Yes. I, too, agree we disagree.
2: I would.
