10 day silent retreat starting tomorrow in McLeod Ganj, and after that, Nepal. A troop of monkeys just walked by my window, three of them with wrapped babies on their stomach. Woman after woman approaches me begging for food or milk for the grimy babies they carry in their shawls--what to do? I feel ashamed by my own privilege as I walk away.. I just found out today some people rent the babies to go begging, does this make me feel better? Today I walk away, tomorrow somebody else will walk away from me.
"You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them"
