As the song began, it reminded me of a lot of classic rock, but there was something about the production, the sense of space, which it made also seem new. I always find your music very restorative, even when it is melancholic. And that seemed to be intentional. The 'same old lie' struck me as the claim that 'what a lovely night this day turned out to be.' And I often think that's what classic rock was a lot about, music, even music about experiences you could never have, that kept you going. So this work feels very conceptually tight: it takes as subject the very tradition it borrows from, in a nice way. Well done as ever, Derick.
