This is incredible, I really like it when you post songs, Derick! They must take a lot of time and effort, but these are so much fun and worth it! It seems to me that you're getting more confident with your voice since way back in the fist October songs. I also think the music in this one is really rich--like good drinking chocolate! It has so many instruments, rythms, range.. I mean, it's not an orchestra piece I know, but my impression is it's richness.
Also, where is the pic from? Did you take it?
As always, I don't quite get the lyrics (so if you post them, that would be nice) but perhaps it's the combination of music and image that makes it seem more upbeat/positive than some of your earlier songs. But I'll wait for the lyrics for a final say.
Great work! Really enjoyed it, and I'll be sorry if there's no more
And also, yes I did take that photo! It's an abandoned building in downtown Buffalo, near the water.
Here are the lyrics:
In a morning dream I heard the sound of a siren Saw the red lights flash Down the avenue, prayed It was nobody I knew I said: I paid my rent I'm not sure what that meant
And from that dream I awoke with my eyes wet But I swear to you that those tears Were not sorrow, my thoughts were on Tomorrow, and on everything That life might bring
Very soon, very soon We will be repaid for all the days lost to the ruins In time We will have our mountain and mansion on the moon Very soon, very soon And everyone we've ever known will sing our song and sing in tune In time And it can be real, even if it's not true
As the days pass They get shorter and shorter As the days pass by They will only get colder And we are getting older I wonder now How much longer now
Very soon, very soon Stand before the grand Atlantic in the late, late afternoon In time Grab a handful of sand and by the breakers make a dune Very soon, very soon Sit by and watch the ocean swell in the presence of the moon In time The dune will wash away leaving an answer in plain view Very soon Set in the distance on the horizon where the blue meets the blue In time Just because it isn't real, doesn't mean it isn't true
Well I know it's not real, and I know it's not true But I believe it's real, and I believe it's true
The dream with the ambulance is this awareness of the frailty of our own lives.. the uncertainty about when the ambulance will come for people we know, or for ourselves. "I paid my rent" is like an evasion: not me! it's not my time yet. I'm on track with life and its obligations, I can't be disposed of yet! "I awoke with my eyes wet, but I swear to you that those tears were not sorrow, my thoughts were on tomorrow"... I'd say the person awoke not with distress or remorse about the purpose of his life till now, but rather a certain gratitude for waking up, for being alive, for having possibility and potential yet before him. "very soon we'll be repaid for all the days lost to the ruins"... Nothing finishes on its own, there's continuity, there's sowing and the reaping of fruits.. and the reward here is the "mountain and mansion on the moon". But still... "days pass, they'll get shorter, we're getting older...." and there's always this possibility as well, that it will simply end. "Stand before the grand Atlantic..." North Carolina <3 before the immeasurable, the insurmountable, the infinite, the expanse, the unknown, and try building a dune to stop, to detain the inevitable. But by the swelling of the moon, "the dune will wash away leaving an answer in plain view".. wash away, dissolve without anguish or fear "where the blue meets the blue" .... a line that is not tangible, not real, not existent, and yet appears on the horizon... All the things we see on the horizon, all the distinctions we can make only because of our limited view and present position... there's more, there no definite line, there's always a new world on the other side of the horizon, but to get there, we have to be able to look over our present dunes.. and perhaps even let them wash away.
I don't know. I hope there are many other ways of reading this as well! But I like it.. Best to just listen and let the imagination speak for itself, in its 1000 tongues.

Aww man, thanks PP!!! Your comment means a lot :)
