Hey Sophs! This might sound dumb, but I'm curious to know what your school and surroundings actually look like. Your friends. Your favorite spot. Your window view (as you once asked me).. Then just get some angles, curves, contrasts, or a special spec in the frame.. don't tell the whole story with your picture. Let us chew on it.
And my best/only advice: take as many pictures as you can. Art comes in the moment of choosing only the special best provocative elusive ones. So click away!
:: )) You can also apply your blockhead/chowderhead philosophy: pick a particular topic, a question or theme and find as many settings, angles and abstract ways of expressing it possible. Or tell us a particular story with your pictures, a narrative of sorts. Or shoot anything randomly and pick at the end. Again. Just take as many pictures as you can.. the narrative will come along the way as you discover your style.
I think you should go with exactly what P.P. Tais said! Do a series of photographs based on your blockhead/chowderhead theory, or if that's too challenging to start off with then anything that tells or hints at some sort of story. But take photos, post them up, and we'll give you feedback -- that's what yum yum's here for! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! :)
Thanks for the tips, guys. <3 I got the camera in the mail yesterday and have been clicking away, although most of the shots have just been random surrounding pictures. I'll keep shutterbugging!

Blockhead method all the way. You could evenjust pick a list of words, 20 adjectives or something, and make an album
